 Abstract:  Myrtle L. and her friend, Carrie E., were travelers from Cleveland, Ohio, on a sightseeing trip by steamer to Buffalo, New York, and then by train across the state to New York City. During their train ride, they stayed in towns and cities along the way, including Albany, Poughkeepsie, and Tarrytown. After visiting New York City, they traveled to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The collection consists of a one volume journal and loose materials removed from the journal, kept by Myrtle L., a young woman whose surname is not recorded. The journal contains descriptions in detail of the sights and events of the journey, the young men they met, shopping excursions, friends and fellow Clevelanders they saw; and documents expenses incurred on the trip. Includes a description of the interior of the Rockefeller mansion in New York and an account of their visit there. The diarist also writes of her personal interests and of her impressions of the people and places she encountered.

 Abstract:  William Eleroy Curtis (1850-1911) was a traveling correspondent for two Chicago newspapers, the Inter-Ocean (1873-1886) and the Record Herald (1887-1911). The collection consists of correspondence, copies of manuscript speeches and articles by Curtis and others, and newspaper clippings, dealing primarily with Curtis' activities as director of the Pan American Union (1890-1893), and as chief of the Latin American Department of the World's Columbian Exposition (1893). Includes Curtis' articles on Christopher Columbus and various European and Latin American countries. Correspondents include national political figures and international dignitaries.

 Abstract:  The Mather Family was a prominent Cleveland, Ohio, family related to the early New England Mather family and descended through Samuel Livingston Mather (1817-1890), who moved to Cleveland from Connecticut in 1843. Family members were prominent in all areas of Cleveland's development, including business and industry, education, philanthropy, the arts, medicine, literature, and politics. Many became nationally and internationally noted in their fields. The Mather family is related by marriage to the Bishop, Stone, Woolson, Benedict and Hay families. The collection consists of correspondence, newspaper clippings, legal and financial documents, copies of wills and estate records, genealogical charts and research notes, biographies, tributes, awards, diaries, account books, drawings, reports, and an autograph collection. Major topics of the correspondence include the travels and literary accomplishments of family members.
